"Something else" response: First, I am personally glad to see the legislature doing something about health insurance in Kansas. As a small business manager, I have looked at plans to offer my employees. Bottom line, I wouldn't be able to stay in business by offering coverage. Additionally, if my employees picked up any portion of the cost of that coverage, without a doubt, they would each say no because it would be too costly. So, while I feel I have a moral obligation to take care of my employees, financially, there is no way possible. Secondly, I have read SB309, but don't totally understand it. I have also read the pros/cons to the Mass. bill it is similar to. At face value, if SB309 is identical to the Mass. bill, it looks like a great plan. However, I've also been told if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. I am sure there are negatives to SB309 -- I just can't see them through the legaleze. 2. What other comments do you have on the issue of Senate Bill 309? 1. It frightens me. 2. All the players need to be at the table and "buy in" to any state plan. Any state plan will not be successful if the health and insurance industries are not supportive and business is not supportive. 3. Do they (Senate) really know what they are doing? 4. I strongly believe this bill is a major step toward socialized medicine and should not be passed. 5. The last state I would copy is Massachusetts. 3. How many full-time employees does your business have? n=28 | | Response Percent | Response Number | | | 1-5 | 42.9 | 12 | | | 6-10 | 3.6 | 1 | | | 11-50 | 25.0 | 7 | | | More than 50 | 21.4 | 6 | | | No answer | 7.1 | 2 | |
